Investigatons of crimes reported to the department are handled by Detectives assigned to the Detective Division. The Detective Division is responsible for investigation of all criminal offenses occuring within or affecting the county. A detective is on call at all times to handle any matter referred by the patrol division or as directed by the Sheriff. Detectives are supervised by a Captain who oversees all aspects of the investigations.

Drug related offenses reported to or occurring in the county are handled by the Multi Agency Crack Enforcement Drug Task Force (MACE). The Sheriff Department has various members assigned to the unit who work jointly with investigators from other agencies to form a cohesive unit responsible for all drug related investigations.
